Favourite Thing: Elizabeth Cotton Flannel Pajama

This week, Elizabeth Cotton's flannel pajamas are our favourite thing at PERT! I recently had a customer that said she felt like she wanted to stay here and hang out in her pj's for awhile! Isn't that so sweet? Pert is a pretty quaint little shop and we aim to make the atmosphere here as friendly and relaxing as possible! Lingerie shopping should be fun and since it's our favourite thing to do we want you to stay and shop with us as long as you like! These pj's are certainly one of the best to lounge around in! They are so soft and so warm, the ultimate luxury in Portuguese flannel. Elizabeth is dedicated to cultivating the world's finest fabrics which is why we love her pajamas. Her fabrics are all natural, produced in European mills especially for her, and then made in a small factory in the historic garment district of New York.

These jammies are ones that only get better with age! It is no surprise then that they made it onto the "O List" as one of Oprah's favourite things! And now they've become one of our favourites here at the love shack! The flannels we have come in 3 prints, each one being the perfect pick-me-up during our chilly Canadian winter. These pj's are definitely one thing we want to give and get this Christmas!

It's a Pert Noel...

sweet treats
soak station

Last night at the love shack we had a little meet and greet where we introduced PERT to Toronto's Media. Such a cute party. We did video interviews with Bryanna from Je Suis TV and Monique from Bravery Productions! Our first on camera interviews in the store! Jacqueline from Soak came with Soak's new fragrance "Lacey," the perfect scent for PERT! Plus, she did demos showing everyone how to use the product! We had treats from the patisserie across the street, it was a very sweet evening! We gave tours of the store and showed off our favourite pieces in the shop to some of Toronto's best stylists and editors! And to top it all off our website also launched! Thanks to Melanie of Bozzo PR for organizing our lovely shindig, Janelle of Hello Dear Design and Illustration and Joel of Joel Hentges Graphic Design and Illustration for creating our beautiful website! Soakwash and Candi Factory provided goodies for our gift bags and we thank them so much! We love early Christmas presents at PERT! We enjoyed having everyone and thank all for taking time out of their busy schedules to be apart of our evening! xox

It's December...

And we are excited to celebrate our first holiday season at PERT! I love the atmosphere this time of year, because the snow shimmers in the light and everything, everywhere you go is all sparkly! It's so much fun! The malls are always extra cozy and it's nice to bundle up and go for a walk and look at all the Christmas lights! I also like wrapping presents. I have this thing for ribbons and bows, I collect them actually (no, I'm not kidding). And since it's December that means it's time to start Christmas shopping! What's on your Christmas list? I think I might ask Santa for some new pj's...betcha would never have guessed that one.

Dress Up

Heather Halter Dress

Holiday parties and New Year's Eve plans have us gals out on the hunt for that perfect dress this time of year. We thought it was time to take our halter dress out of the wardrobe! Such a fabulous dress! We love Heather's everyday pieces, but this dress immediately caught our eye when we saw the holiday collection.

The leather on the front and around the waist gives the dress an edgy detail. Of course we adore the glamorous long sheer skirt, very lingerie inspired. A perfect mixture of styles to make a statement this season! How could we resist this one? It's so pert!

Oh goodness, don't forget your underthings!

It is so much fun, getting all dressed up!

Getting Fit!

Although we don't market ourselves as a fit boutique, we gladly offer this service to our customers and we were prompted to write a brief post encouraging bra fitting after being sent an article this morning about The Boobie Trap's campaign regarding the horrors women face when wearing ill-fitting bras.

The Boobie Trap is a lingerie shop in Newfoundland and they have come up with and launched a campaign with the initiative to highlight the problems women face when wearing the wrong sized bra. The campaign was styled with the horror movie in mind, and even though Halloween may be over, wearing the wrong bra size lasts forever if you don't get out there for a bra fitting! Scary! We think their idea was quite clever, a lighthearted approach to the common problems of wearing the wrong bra size such as "quadraboob" and "the shelf." Both are indeed horrible if you ask us here at Pert.
With all my underwear experience I can say that it is true, most women are wearing the wrong bra size. It is important to get fitted for the correct size because in the right bra your breasts will appear smaller, perkier, your clothes will fit better, and it can help to relieve back and shoulder discomfort therefore improving your posture.
Overall a bra fitting is truly a very uplifting experience, a breast of fresh air if you will! If you aren't sure what to do this weekend and have never been fitted, we suggest gathering a few girlfriends and heading over to your local lingerie boutique for a bra fitting. I have no doubt the staff will be happy to help you find your correct size, and just as a side note I won't be held responsible for the damage done to your credit card. We little lingerie shops are always full of a few too many delicious treats.
Happy Friday!

Favourite Thing: Philippe Matignon Lace Tights

Our new favourite thing at the love shack this week are these Philippe Matignon lace tights.
Philippe Matignon is a luxury hosiery brand from Italy providing a variety of tights, stockings and socks. They have an extensive collection featuring many different styles, colours and prints, all of which are of the highest quality fabric and most importantly, very comfortable! Philippe Matignon is known for using at least two times the lycra fibres over each hosiery fibre on their stockings. This adds to the durability and detail in their pieces. Since tights have become an accessory, a way to jazz up any outfit,we couldn't wait for these ones to arrive at PERT. Their holiday collection, which we are unpacking this afternoon, is super snazzy! We are certainly going to be taking home a few new pairs!

This lace effect print is versatile, it can be dressed up like we are wearing it, or easily worn with denim shorts, a chunky sweater and boots, for a more casual look.
For a closer look at the collection check out their website here.

Love Your Body

It's "Love Your Body" day!
This is a very important message for women and girls of all ages (men too)! The largest campaign is put on every year by the NOW Foundation, the National Organization for Women, but the idea has caught on and pretty much everyone out there is supporting this cause. If you aren't, you should be!

Simply take a moment and tell yourself you are beautiful because you are in fact, beautiful! If you are having trouble believing it, you can change this! There are so many resources at our fingertips that can help us lead happy, healthy and enriching lives. If you are someone that struggles with your body image, and let's face it, who hasn't, you know that this can interfere with how you live your life everyday. A great thing about this campaign is that it encourages us to look at ourselves and our bodies and see the good and the bad and realize that although we may not love everything about our appearance, there are things we do love and we need to embrace this and run with it! Focusing on the positives gives us the fuel we need to make a change. It's all about positivity, encouraging a healthy body-image and celebrating self-acceptance!

Ladies, I encourage all of you to celebrate your curves today! We whipped out the tape measure at Pert and we're rocking 32-25-35. Petite yes, but we have a little junk in the trunk that we're keeping amazing all the time because we have chosen to climb the stairs to our apartment. Also, thanks to our properly fitted bra,we're looking and feeling very perky. E cup. When Ludacris was rapping about double D's he was clearly missing out.
Take some "me" time today, tell a friend they are beautiful, call your Mom, or your sister, and tell her you don't know what you would do without her. Compliment a stranger. Look in the mirror and focus on everything wonderful that is staring back at you. And repeat after me:
"My body's too bootylicious for ya babe."

Favourite Thing: Acca Kappa Hair Brush

We are going to share some of our favourite things at PERT, and the Acca Kappa hair brush just arrived so we had to share it as our first favourite thing!
Cute Retro Graphic!
This one pictured is a pin brush and another brush is available with bristles. It is lightweight and the perfect addition to any vanity! The Acca Kappa products are manufactured in Italy. The company was founded in 1869 made famous by their quality hair brushes, combs and accessories. They are the official brush supplier to Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. Fancy indeed! The line has expanded and now includes skincare, soaps and fragrances! Our favourite scent is their most popular, white moss. The hand cream works wonders! And we are also gaga over their "1869" cologne for men!
This is a wonderful product and considering it is one of the best it is no doubt to take good care of our luscious locks. We are all about a little extra pampering here at PERT! And when we aren't busy getting glam the brush of course doubles as our microphone! Perfect for girly sleepovers where we belt out our favourite cheesy songs! This one by Paul Carrack is definitely deserving of a little hair brush action! Sing along here!
More favourite things to come! Enjoy this beautiful weekend! Happy Thanksgiving!

There's no need to be PERT, Miss...Our 1st Post!

Opening Day at Pert! July 31st, 2011
And we're blogging! Since we have been open for two months (already?!) and had our grand opening celebrations last weekend, we figured it was time for our first post! Welcome to our blog! PERT Lingerie opened on July 31st, 2011. This day was a dream come true for me; I never "always wanted to own my own store" or anything but I had tossed around the idea now and then. About two years ago, knowing I was not happy at my current retail job, my Mom and two younger sisters cornered me, insisting I seriously consider the idea of opening my own shop.
There was no question in my mind, if I did this, it would be life-changing. Not knowing the first thing about owning my own business it was a big risk to take. But luckily, armed with advice and inspiration from business savvy friends, the support of my family, most importantly my Mom and Dad, and my business planner's experience, I set-off on this crazy adventure fairy tale.
There are many reasons why I chose fine lingerie, it is of course one of the lovliest businesses to be in, but I think the most important reason is, the first bra I tried on, that truly fit me properly, was not only pretty but it made me feel pretty. This feeling comes few and far between, especially when you're a teenage girl, and to this day I will always remember that little ivory bra and the smile it put on my face whenever I wore it. I will always have that memory and I want to share that with other women. Cheesy, but I am an 80's child after all.

Our PINK floor!
Grand Opening weekend!
The past year has been very challenging with the ups and downs of getting this whole thing off the ground, but now that PERT is a real place to come shop I couldn't imagine being anywhere else every day. This is what I am meant to do and it is where I am meant to be right now. Realizing this was my "dream come true" if you will.

Pert is a place for girls to embrace a little mystery, who like to have dance parties in their underwear and who want to feel beautiful always. It’s a place to shop for all things sweet and wonderful, for any woman in your life, whether it be your mother, daughter, sister, friend, or yourself. It is a place to go to feel pretty. At Pert we believe in having fun, taking risks, in laughing, crying, sharing and of course in retail therapy. We believe in dressing from the inside out, because inner beauty is what it's all about. We can help by making the first things you put on everyday just a little bit more beautiful. Only the woman choosing her lingerie knows the feeling it gives her, making her underwear her best kept secret and making undressing for the day that much more fun. You get to do it all again, tomorrow.

So here we are sharing all of our adventures in underwear and more with you! Our next post will be up very soon!
